Sissi’s practice is founded in scientific research and poetics, focusing on the themes of the body and its biology and the instability of identity. Anthropology, archaeology, and anatomy provide inspiration for her work, manifesting in an array of media from performance, installation, photography, and drawing, to painting, bookmaking, and the Italian tradition of the handmade.
Her exhibitions include shows at the Mambo and Bologna Museums (2015); Tate Modern (2011); Italian Pavilion, 53rd International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia (2009); and the Brooklyn Museum, (2007).
Sissi’s work resides in private and public collections alike, including the Elizabeth A. Sackler Foundation and Strauss Collection, both in New York, and the Furla for Art Foundation, GAM in Turin, and MACRO Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy.
