Emily Buck’s practice comprises painting, ceramics, text and performance. She has been championed and commissioned by the fashion designer Roksanda, and exhibited at her flagship store during London Craft Week, and we are delighted to welcome her to Cure3 this year. When offered the choice of the 3D cube or the 2D square, Emily surprised us by selecting the square and using that object as a medium in which to both contrast with and support her stoneware sculpture.
The influence of the ancient world permeates throughout her work. Her sculptures are classically inspired whilst retelling old norms with a resounding sensuality and feminine quality. For Cure3 she has painted the square in a deep blue and placed it on to a bespoke crisp white plinth which juxtaposes the natural black organic vessel, creating a sculptural construction that goes far beyond the limits of the brief.
The abstract forms encourage dialogue and a tone of meditative contemplation. Her sculpture has a pure, peaceful and elegant beauty with a dynamic aesthetic which celebrates the essential and natural texture of the material.
