For Cure3, Cruickshank has produced Thread Spectrum No.3. As a continuation of his studio research, the artist worked to the parameters of the given cube and having never worked on that scale before, it created interesting material challenges that have subsequently led to a new series of works.

He says of the work: “Much of Thread Spectrum’s appearance is born out of the winding and stitching processes I have developed. This particular one was made on an improvised winding machine using a potter’s wheel. Material, machine and maker, each take their turn in leading or resisting outcomes, and it is a sensitivity to this push and pull that drives the work. It is a practice grounded in learning by doing, and thinking through making.”
