In 2021, British sculptor James Capper unveiled MUDSKIPPER: an ambitious large-scale mobile sculpture at Battersea Power Station. Conceived specially as ‘a work of art for the river’ the artist converted an original 1980s (14.5 ton) Thames workboat into an amphibious sculpture that explores the dynamic relationship between the environment, biomechanics, engineering and artistic ingenuity.

“MUDSKIPPER has challenged everything in my sculptural language, it has pushed the envelope in the binding agent to my practice — the speculative engineering philosophy I use to execute my ideas.”
