Liliane Tomasko often begins with a study of personal effects bearing traces of human activity such as bedding or clothing, offering a portal from everyday domesticity into the realm of sleeping and dreaming and exploring our understanding of the ‘conscious’ and ‘subconscious’. Her paintings are abstract yet born from the physical so deeply suggestive, creating a sense of surrealism and claustrophobia with their vitality and assertive use of colour. Tomasko first captures moments with polaroid photography before transferring them into drawings which finally become abstract and dynamic paintings. Each moment in this process furthers the final work from the original source.
Tomasko’s work has been shown globally and her paintings can be found in many major museum collections including: Albertina Museum Vienna; Kunstmuseum Bern,Switzerland; Lowe Art Museum, Miami, USA; K20 K21 Kunstsammlung Nordrhein- Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany; Charles Library Art Collection, Temple University, Philadelphia, USA and IVAM-Institut Valencia d’Art Modern, Valencia, Spain.
