For this year’s Cure3, Annie Morris has produced Ultramarine Blue and Cadmium Red, in which she blends abstraction and figuration. The floral female figures inside the Perspex cube are a common feature in Morris’ practice; playful and vibrant, they seem to have been drawn in mid-air. The illusion that the work has been sketched stems from the artist’s past achievements, as she first became known for her illustrations. The pregnant women are presented in a life-affirming manner and seem to be happily conversing In this artwork, Morris explores nature, existence and the female body, woven together in an abstract, evocative sculpture.
