In his first participation for Cure3 the artist presents a three-dimensional installation called Buildings. He explains the relevance to his practice: “These model buildings are a sort of by-product of making my paintings in the studio. I occasionally depict or physically incorporate them in the paintings. I have sometimes exhibited them, or groups of them, as independent ‘works’ in themselves, though I am uncertain of their status within my oeuvre. Buildings in art fascinate me, and I think there’s a metaphorical relationship between buildings and paintings. Both are containers of sorts, and from neither can one really ‘extract’ the content. The ideal of further encapsulating these models within a Perspex cube was appealing, and chimed with other images I have made of vitrines and windows.”
