His usual exploration of surface tensions and spatial relations is apparent here, and despite the small scale, Rolph sees the cube as a limitless, “expansive and transparent space”. Rolph exhibits internationally and his work is owned by The Met in New York and Tate among others. Inspired by experiences as diverse as a London high-rise, a desert sunset and the Indian Ocean, the artist has responded to the cube’s environment without compromising his investigation into the history of the pictorial.
