MacGarry's work Shape Shifter for Cure3 expands upon an ongoing series of watercolours she has been making for the last two years, Hand Inside, in which the hand is used as a reoccurring motif to interact with the body and space. She explains further: “This series began during the first covid lockdown, borne out of thinking about touch, the body and the aesthetics of viruses — I began to use ink and water, allowing it to pool and spread in a way that was somewhat out of my control. I took this particular opportunity to explore three-dimensionality and space in relation to paper, so the work becomes sculptural and holds the internal space of the cube, while materially still being watercolour on paper. It is a celebration of colour, pattern and the body, and suggestive of dancing celebratory figures interacting with one another.”
