For his first contribution to Cure3, Innes has worked in an intimate scale that is not often seen (his canvases are usually large and all encompassing) and with his use of Shellac disrupting the surface of the oil, he has reinvented a former series of paintings known as Isolated Form, (as he did in his Turner Prize exhibition of 1995). With this historic series he removed a dot or pigment from
the canvas, here with Isolated Form 2022 for Cure3, the artist has added a stark bright red circle that completely contrasts the layers of colour built-up on the panel. The Shellac circle is slightly off centre and its position, colour and material masterfully disrupts the view.

In an interview with the National Galleries of Scotland he said of his practice: “... what you see is a painting that has its own history but that also has a physicality which has evolved...” Isolated Form for Cure3 is a small work that is part of an important history of this artist's work.
